Update-Mid 09

Oh my...

I hardly know where to begin talking about my hair since the last post I made. I BIG CHOPPED what was left of my relaxer off April 18. .so basically 5 months after my last trip to the salon for a relaxer. Looking back I kinda wish I would have done it myself. .bought some shears from Sally's and got to snippin' but that's not what happened. I went to some place a co-worker suggested. Of course I was nervous going in knowing that I'd be coming out with an extremely small amount of hair..but I have to say I absolutely hated it when I got home. He wasn't really experienced with natural hair--probably a few clients with naturally curly hair who came in to have it straightened. Anyway the thing is I knew what to expect but I didn't really know what the finished product would be like. He could have done a much better job of shaping it..hell I could have done a much better job! As far as a style I didn't explain much of what I wanted besides cut the ends off..which is what I got. =/
What's done is done now though. At first it was really rough going...I hate to admit it but I do pay attention to what other ppl say/think about me at times. My haircut was done on a Sat and going back to work Monday was in a word AWFUL. I barely wanted to look at myself in the mirror so I knew I'd be in for it at work the next week..and long story short. I had some compliments but there were also some looks/overheard comments that made me feel not so great. Now, I do my very best to shake off any weird/neg looks I get and just keep it movin. My hair is growing pretty well now too (about 1/2 inch or more new growth I think)..definitely more hair than a couple months ago and it's really nice to see. As time goes by I just know I'm going to grow to love it more. I have a teeny afro now...but my goal is to keep it healthy growing big long and fluffay!

Brief Introduction

The purpose of this blog is basically for me to track/document my hair journey. I've decided to transition from relaxed to natural hair. (I'm reallyyy excited by the way) I think doing this will help me to keep track of my progress and what's good/bad for my hair etc. and to motivate me and keep my inspired as well. As of yesterday (Jan 17) I'm two months post relaxer and so far so good. Right now I'm in the process of trying different products/styles to help me through all this so we'll see what happens. I just hope I can go through with it--there's so much inspiration, advice, and tips to be found here on the internet!

FYI: My daughter has naturally curly hair so this isn't my absolute first taste of dealing with naturally curly hair but our hair types will probably end up being different by how much I'll just have to wait and see. But we have been battling the issues that most curly girls battle dryness/frizzies/curl definition etc etc. Luckily we've recently come across some pretty good products for her. The search definitely won't stop here. I'm convinced that there's the possibility of something better out there.

I'll post more soon.

=)
